Fugitive Who Had Been Living On A Tropical Island Turned Himself In To The Police Because He Got Tired Of The Sun

Ah yes, Tenerife. A lovely place in the Canary Islands of Spain. Per Wikipedia:

Tenerife is known internationally for its warm and pleasant climate, as the “Island of Eternal Spring” (Isla de la Eterna Primavera).[46] The island, which lies at the same latitude as central Florida, enjoys a warm tropical climate with an average of 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) in the winter and 24–28 °C (75–82 °F) in the summer. It has a high annual total of days of sunshine, and low precipitation in all but the mountain areas.

Sounds lovely, eh? Tropical, high sunshine, low rain, the absolute dream.

.

And this is jail.

It’s known for it’s barbed wire, wine made out of urine, and unruly clientele. Most would prefer the former to the latter, but not this guy!

AOL - A man who says he fled an Austrian prison over a decade ago has turned himself in to police in Salzburg, telling them he was fed up with living in Spain’s Canary Islands.

Police said the 64-year-old, carrying two suitcases, went to police at Salzburg’s railway station Saturday night and told them he was a fugitive prisoner who had just arrived from Munich Airport.

They said in a statement Monday that he told officers he had spent the past 10 ½ years on Tenerife, a popular vacation island, and wanted to return home because “Tenerife is not as nice as it used to be and he had lived there long enough.”

Police verified that he had fled a prison in eastern Austria. He was taken to a Salzburg jail.

My dude, what are you doing?! He escaped jail. He was living on the beach. He was shredding the gnarl. Banging floozies. Hanging 10. Sipping on coladas. And he traded that all in to go to jail. He didn’t even try to live somewhere else. He was like “welp, that’s enough free livin’ for me, I guess I’ll just go to JAIL”. Actually pretty funny when you think about it. He’s all or nothing. Either living the island life or living in prison, no in-between. Wasn’t just gonna move to a suburb, or try a new place of residency. He’s either catching rays or catching for Ray. I love it. Bless this guy. One extreme or the other, that’s a hell of a way to live.
